Reid accepts position at C.H. Yoe

After three seasons at the helm of Madisonville’s basketball program, Chris Reid announced Thursday he is accepting the head coaching position at C.H. Yoe High School in Cameron.

Reid led the Mustangs to the postseason in each of his three seasons in Madisonville, including a second place finish in district in 2018.

“I grew here as a coach and learned some things,” said Reid. “I think it will help me down the road.”

Reid ventures to a district primarily known for their football prowess, but is eager to have a chance to put the basketball program on the map.

“I knew, traditionally, they kind of had the reputation of a football school,” said Reid. “When I spoke to them, it was made clear they were looking for somebody that could come in and build the basketball program up to, at some point, reach the level of success their football program has had. That was a real intriguing opportunity.”

Reid also touched on Cameron itself and conveyed his eagerness to work in the community.

“One of the biggest draws is community support,” said Reid. “That community has a great reputation of supporting the athletic programs and the coaches, so I think that will help the process. I’m not saying it will be easy, but I definitely think that makes a huge difference.”

Reid also expressed admiration for the support he received from those in the Madisonville community during his tenure.

“Anytime you go to a community, no matter how long, you will always meet people that you develop mutual respect and love for,” said Reid. “There are definitely people that we will miss, and that is always the toughest thing about a transition like this.”

Athletic Director Rusty Nail announced in March that Brad Taylor will replace Reid as Madisonville’s next basketball coach.
