Smith a top player for Trinity Valley

Tra'dayja Smith has been a key contributor for the Trinity Valley Community College women's basketball team.

The Madisonville High School graduate averaged 8.3 points, which tied for third on the team, through the first four games (4-0). Her 6.8 assists per game led the squad.

The sophomore guard had a season-high 11 points in the opener. She led the Cardinals with a season-high 10 assists in the next game and added nine points.

Since last year, Smith started all 40 games she played.

More women's basketball

Freshman Tylesea Roundtree had four points for Cedar Valley College against Angelina. The past Mustang had four rebounds, two steals and one block.

Prairie View A&M senior La'Neique Nealey had 14 points and nine rebounds in the opener. The Madisonville graduate had four assists and three steals.

Former Mustang Lexi Leveston had season highs of 11 points and rebounds for Langston Uni-versity against Jarvis Christian.

North Zulch resident Breeanna Brackney had 10 points and four rebounds for Lincoln Christian University (Ill.) against Hannibal-LaGrange. The freshman guard contributed two steals and two assists.

Softball

Lexi Harris is a freshman infielder and outfielder for Blinn College. She is from Normangee High.

Another from the Panthers, Ashlyn Teran is a freshman pitcher and outfielder for Bellevue Uni-versity (Neb.).

Women's cross country

North Zulch High graduate Kyela Cosby competed for Sul Ross State University for the first time. The sophomore, who played basketball as a freshman, completed the Saints Invitational 5,000-meter race in 29 minutes, 35.6 seconds. She was fifth among the Lobos.

Women's rodeo

Also from North Zulch High, Texas A&M University's Sonora Schueneman was fifth in goat ty-ing at the Sam Houston State University event.

Madisonville alumna Tacy Webb of Sam Houston State was sixth in goat tying at the Sam Hou-ston rodeo.

Football

Previously at Normangee High, Tyce Alexander played in all 10 games for McMurry University. The true freshman was a starter at right offensive tackle.
