The Madisonville men’s soccer team split a pair of district matchups with an 11-0 loss at Palestine Feb. 25 and a 6-2 win over New Waverly to bring their overall district record to 3-3. The Mustangs traveled to Westwood Tuesday in search of their second straight win to start the second round of league play.

Soccer splits district bouts

The Madisonville men’s soccer team split a pair of district matchups with an 11-0 loss at Palestine Feb. 25 and a 6-2 win over New Waverly to bring their overall district record to 3-3. The Mustangs traveled to Westwood Tuesday in search of their second straight win to start the second round of league play.

Goals were scored in the victory over New Waverly by Chase Couch, who scored three, Gabriel Aceves, Vladimir Morales and Juan Bedolla. Assists were recorded by Ryan Kinsey, Jovany Silva, Juan Torres, Aceves and Morales.

In the first round of district play, Madisonville recorded wins over New Waverly (6-1) and Westwood (6-0) before falling to Mexia (2-1), Crockett (1-0) and Palestine (11-0).

Entering play Tuesday, the Mustangs were fourth in district behind Palestine, Mexia and Crockett and ahead of Westwood and New Waverly.

After Tuesday’s second matchup against Westwood, the Mustangs will conclude their season with games against Mexia, Crockett and Palestine, all of which will take place at MHS.

Madisonville will host Mexia Friday at 5:30 p.m. at MHS.
