The Madisonville softball team lost 12-2 to Giddings at MHS March 10, their final completed matchup before school activities were suspended due to concern over the Coronavirus.

“I hate that we are having to miss playing, but I totally understand the caution,” said head coach Ashley Renner on the situation. “I would rather be cautious than not.”

Giddings posted a single run in each of the first four innings to build a lead at MHS and broke out for six runs in the top of the sixth to break the game open.

The Lady Mustangs Mustangs managed just four hits in the game with knocks from Jenna Yeager, Kyndall Creighton, Martia Tyler and Grace Williamson.

Yeager knocked home one of the team’s two runs with an RBI-triple. She was the only Madisonville player to record an RBI in the contest. Creighton and Tyler also recorded extra base hits with a double apiece.

Sidnie Smith got the start on the mound for the Lady Mustangs and was relieved by Creighton after five innings of work.

Madisonville’s scheduled home contest against Navasota Friday was canceled due to the virus. They were also scheduled to open district play Tuesday against Mexia. Instead, they will be off at least through March 29.
