Tennis boasts top finishers

The Madisonville varsity and junior varsity tennis teams have competed in tournaments at MHS and Taylor this month and will have another in Groesbeck on March 28 before the varsity district tournament.

Only a handful of varsity competitors recorded results in Taylor before inclement weather forced the remaining matches to be rescheduled for March 12 at MHS.

The team of Ashley Saucedo and Fabiola Vera earned third place in women’s doubles while Michael de Boisblanc and Harper Wiseman placed third in mixed doubles and Caymen Forrest and Zoie Stewart were fourth in mixed doubles. Ashlyn Hahn earned fourth place in the women’s singles category.

On March 12 at MHS, Wiseman and Kennedy Bryant earned first place in women’s doubles and were followed by the duo of Saucedo and Vera in fourth place. On the men’s doubles side, Cesar Rosas and Jace Snook took second place while the team of Carson Fraley and Brett Snook took third.

Forrest and Stewart, meanwhile, took second place in the mixed doubles category while Garrett Underwood and Brooke Huff were fourth. Hahn took third place in women’s singles and de Boisblanc took fourth on the men’s side.

Madisonville held their second invitational on March 8 at MHS. Hahn earned the top spot for her performance in women’s singles while de Boisblanc took second on the men’s side. Tyler Garcia was fifth in men’s singles.

Rosas and Snook, meanwhile, took third place in men’s doubles while Fraley and Snook finished sixth. Forrest and Stewart also took sixth place in the mixed doubles section.

The Mustangs JV squad saw a third place finish in women’s singles from Emily Goodwin, a fourth place finish from Jicel Torres and a fifth place finish from Johnna Carroll. The duo of Damion Phillips and Serena Powers earned third place in mixed doubles while Maegan Anderson and Jenna Yeager took fifth place in women’s doubles. Lazaro Almaraz was sixth in men’s singles.

On March 12, the JV team saw a number of top finishers including the team of Almaraz and J.J. Valdez in men’s doubles, Anderson and Yeager in women’s doubles, Phillips and Powers in mixed doubles and Emily Goodwin in women’s singles.

Johnna Carroll and Brylee Disanto took second place in women’s doubles while Madison Clopton and Andrea Gonzalez were third. Torres took second in women’s singles and was followed by Kylie Ouellette in third, Maria Ayala in fourth and Caitlin Manning in sixth. Peyton Rose, meanwhile, was third on the men’s singles side.

The JV district tournament will take place on March 26 at MHS.
