The Madisonville tennis team improved to 2-1 in district play with an authoritative 17-2 team victory over Mexia on Thursday. It was a quick bounce back performance after dropping a district match to Groesbeck the week before.

“I am very proud of how hard my players have been working this season,” said head coach Catherine Sedlacek. “The Groesbeck loss was definitely a motivator.”

Multiple Mustang tennis players recorded wins in the blowout, including women’s doubles duos Ashlyn Hahn and Ashley Saucedo, Brooke Huff and Fabiola Vera, and Elizabeth Guevara and Evie Rickard. Extra matches, which do not count toward the overall team score, were won by the duos of Kylie Ouellette and Sarah Binch, Anna Jimenez and Liliana Payan, and Abigail Binch and Sarah Binch.

In men’s doubles, Madisonville duos of Damion Phillips and Mason Raisback were victorious along with Lazaro Almaraz and Peyton Rose. Extra matches were won by the duos of Carlos Alvarado and Nathan Fleck, Dalton Disanto and Garrett Underwood and Seth Honea and J.J. Valdez.

In men’s singles, Madisonville saw wins from Caymen Forrest, Mason Railsback, Garrett Underwood, Damion Phillips and Lazaro Almaraz with an extra win coming from Peyton Rose. Individually on the women’s side, Madisonville’s Ashlyn Hahn, Ashley Saucedo, Elizabeth Guevara, Evie Rickard, Brooke Huff and Fabiola Vera all won individually along with Alexandrea Gonzalez, Lizeth Arjon and Jicel Tores in extra matches.

The mixed doubles duo of Caymen Forrest and Zoie Stewart picked up a victory along with extra match winners Adrian Edwards and Emily Goodwin.

The Madisonville tennis team was originally scheduled to participate in a non-district event with China Spring and Liberty Hill on Saturday, but have removed the match from their schedule due to a conflict. They will take on Rusk at home on Sept. 26 in an attempt to improve to 3-1 in district.
