The Madisonville tennis team concluded their regular season with their district match at MHS last week and will send the senior doubles duo of Kennedy Bryant and Harper Wiseman to the Regional Tournament in Bryan on April 17-18.
“I am extremely proud of both the junior varsity and varsity teams,” said Coach Catherine Sedlacek. “We had a long, hard season with very bipolar Texas weather, but these kids still always made the effort and pushed hard.”
Bryant and Wiseman earned second place in varsity women’s doubles to punch their ticket to Regionals. Ashley Saucedo and Fabiola Vera also placed in women’s doubles with a third place finish and Ashlyn Hahn was fourth in women’s singles.
On the men’s side, the doubles duo of Caymen Forrest and Carson Fraley earned fourth place while Cesar Rosas and Garrett Underwood were fifth and consolation winners. Tyler Garcia also placed fifth and was the consolation winner in men’s singles.
The duo of Brooke Huff and Kyle Huff placed fourth in the mixed doubles category while Jordan Davis and Brett Snook took sixth and were consolation finalists.
Both the junior varsity squads took first place in their final outing of the season against district foes. They had first place finishes from doubles duos Maegan Anderson and Jenna Yeager on the women’s side, Lazaro Almaraz and J.J. Valdez on the men’s side, Serena Powers and Damion Phillips in the mixed category and Evie Rickard in women’s singles.
Zoie Stewart and Jace Snook each took second place in singles while Jicel Torres and Jace Snook took third. Johnna Carroll and Brylee Disanto also took third in women’s doubles and Emily Goodwin placed fourth in women’s singles.
The junior varsity season may be over, but the players are already working toward improving their games for next fall.
“Now that their season is over, I still have a handful that will stay after for an hour or two to work on their tennis game,” said Sedlacek. “I love to see that level of commitment in my young players.”
