The Madisonville tennis team competed in their first district matchup of the fall season on Thursday and picked up an 11-8 team victory over Palestine at MHS.

“Every week is an opportunity to push ourselves,” said Coach Catherine Sedlacek. “A win feels great after putting in the court time, but we still have improvements to make. We are working to play our best possible tennis and we still have some very tough opponents coming up.”

The Mustangs saw victories on the women’s doubles side from the duos of Ashlyn Hahn and Ashley Saucedo, Brooke Huff and Fabiola Vera and Elizabeth Guevara and Evie Rickard. On the men’s side, Mason Railsback and Damion Phillips picked up a win in doubles along with Lazaro Almaraz and Peyton Rose.

Phillips was also victorious in men’s singles. Madisonville saw multiple winners in women’s singles, including Guevara, Saucedo, Rickard, Huff, Vera, Zoie Stewart and Emily Goodwin.

Madisonville will host Groesbeck for their second district matchup of the season at MHS on Thursday at 4 p.m.
