Tennis prepares for fall postseason

The Madisonville tennis team picked up a district victory over Rusk in their final league matchup of the fall season on Thursday before the beginning of tournament play.

The Mustangs took down Rusk by an overall score of 17-2. In the doubles category, Madisonville saw wins from the duos of Casar Rosas and Garrett Underwood, Damion Phillips and Mason Railsback and Carlos Alvarado and Nathan Fleck on the men’s side.

In women’s doubles, the duos of Ashlyn Hahn and Ashley Saucedo were victorious along with Brooke Huff and Fabiola Vera. Caymen Forrest and Zoie Stewart won their match in mixed doubles.

In the singles category, the men’s side saw wins from Forrest, Rosas, Railsback, Underwood, Phillips, Lazaro Almaraz and Nathan Fleck. The women’s side picked up wins from Saucedo, Vera, Stewart, Huff, Elizabeth Guevara, Evie Rickard and Emily Goodwin.

The Mustangs will compete in a non-district matchup on the road against The Woodlands on Thursday. This is their final scheduled match before the fall district tournament, which is scheduled for Oct. 10 in Madisonville and Groebeck.
