Tennis takes the court

The Madisonville tennis team participated in their first matchups of the fall season last week and earned valuable experience against competitive programs.

Last Tuesday, Madisonville fell to Willis as a team by a score of 10-7. However, it was their first matchup of the season and Willis is a 5A school.

The Mustangs saw wins from Emily Goodwin and Elizabeth Guevara in the women’s doubles category, Mason Railsback in men’s singles and Brooke Huff, Fabiola Vera, Zoie Stewart, Elizabeth Guevara and Kylie Ouellette in women’s singles.

On Saturday, Madisonville competed in a quad match at Midway High School and Robinson High School. The Mustangs picked up an 11-7 team win over Palestine in Midway and saw wins from Lazaro Almaraz and Peyton Rose in the men’s doubles category, Ashlyn Hahn and Ashley Saucedo for women’s doubles along with Elizabeth Guevara and Evie Rickard, Caymen Forrest and Zoie Stewart in mixed doubles, Garrett Underwood and Damion Phillips for men’s singles and Elizabeth Guevara, Ashlyn Hahn, Evie Rickard, Zoie Stewart and Emily Goodwin in women’s singles.

Madisonville’s last round on Saturday came against tennis powerhouse Robinson High School. They lost the match by an overall score of 13-7, but it featured a number of close matches and tiebreakers throughout.

The Mustangs saw victories from Damion Phillips and Mason Railsback in men’s doubles along with Lazaro Almaraz and Peyton Rose. Rose, Phillips and Almaraz all picked up victories in men’s singles while Ashlyn Hahn and Evie Rickard were victorious in the women’s singles category.

The Madisonville tennis team’s next matchup will take place on Thursday at Bryan High School against Caldwell.
