Teran tranfers to SAGU

Ashlyn Teran has not returned to play softball for Bellevue University (Neb.).

The Normangee High School graduate will play for Southwestern Assemblies of God University instead.

"Ashlyn contacted me saying she wanted to come closer to home," SAGU head coach Steven Watson said via email. "I jumped on the opportunity aggressively, and we got her. I believe she will be a major impact player for us. She is a incredible young lady also."

As a freshman outfielder and pitcher last year for Bellevue, Teran was named to the all-North Star Athletic Association First Team. She hit .371 in 64 games and had one home run with 26 runs batted in. The left-hander had a 1-1 record and 4.30 earned run average in five appearances on the mound.

Women's cross country

Kyela Cosby will not compete for Sul Ross State University this season. She is out of North Zulch High.

Baseball

Will Hudson will not return to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he played seven games as a freshman catcher last year. The Madisonville High graduate has transferred to Sam Houston State University.

Football

Cornelius Merchant is a freshman for East Texas Baptist University. He was a running back for the Mustangs.

Mauricio Aceves is a freshman for ETBU. He was a kicker and punter for the Mustangs.

Men's golf

Texas A & M University sophomore Sam Bennett tied for 40th in the Southern Amateur Championship in Little Rock, Ark. Out of Madisonville High, he shot 287 (72-71-74-70).

University of Houston senior Logan Young shot 146 (72-74) in the qualifier for the W.E. Cole Cotton States Invitational. The Normangee alumnus lost in the Round of 32 at the event.
