Track dominates in Centerville


Both the Madisonville Varsity men’s and women’s track teams shined at the first meet of the season in Centerville on Thursday and came away with the highest scores out of any other competing programs.

The Lady Mustangs placed in all of the running events and finished with a total score of 117. The next closest school was Leon with a score of 74.

Madisonville’s Kenndie Moffett, Garlanesha Gilbert and Chloe Olvera all finished with the top three spots in the 200-meter dash. Moffett placed first with a time of 26.15 and followed by Gilbert with 26.28 and Olvera with 27.31. Olvera would also finish second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17:46.

Madisonville’s Madi Caperton finished fourth with a time of 2:35 in the 800-meter run while Grace Williamson finished third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:17. As a team, the Lady Mustangs won the 800-meter relay handily with a time of 1:46.7.

On the men’s side, Madisonville won the meet with an overall score of 109. The next closest was Franklin with a score of 89.

Roderick Holiday of the Mustangs won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11 even while Uriel Willis finished in fourth place with 11.62. Gage Smith finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.47 and was followed by Ronnie Mosley with a time of 23.64. Dylan Stanley finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.

In the 400-meter dash, Garrett Johnson was second with a time of 53.29 while Reyshawn Moore also finished the 300-meter hurdles in second place with a time of 45.45. Michael DeBoisblanc finished in third place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.22 and was followed by Moore (19.40) and Marcos Lopez (19.43).

As a team, the Mustangs finished second in the 400-meter relay with a time of 43.63, first in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:32.8 and second in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:35.6.
