Track earns top finishes in opener

The Madisonville varsity women’s track team took first place at the Tiger Relays in Centerville Thursday along with the men’s junior varsity team while the men’s varsity squad recorded a fourth place finish.

The women’s varsity squad took home four first place finishes including Raegan Olvera (100 M Dash, 12:57), Roy’Kia Moffett, Kenndie Moffett, Farrah Moffett and Kristen Tolliver (400 M Relay, 49.39), Daiona Johnson, Roy’Kia Moffett, Olvera and Tolliver (1600 M Relay, 4:21.39) along with another top finish from the group of Roy’Kia Moffett, Kenndie Moffett, Farrah Moffett and Tolliver (800 M Relay, 1:44.52).

Other top finishes came from Monique Berry (Second, 100 M Dash, 12.90), Zoee Newton (Third 1600 M Run, 6:03.63; Third, 800 M Run, 2:37:02) and Madi Caperton (Second, 3200 M Run, 13:39).

The women's team earned an overall score of 111.5 to take home the top prize.

The men’s side compiled 59 total points for a fourth place finish. The 400 M and 800 M Relay teams each took first place in their respective events. The 400 group was timed at 44:26 and consisted of Tyrese Brown, Jer’Mal Holland, Devin Wheaton and Roderick Holiday. The 800 M group included Brown, Holland, Wheaton and Donovan Young.

Holiday also placed second in the 100 M Dash (11.13) while Young placed third in the 200 M (23.77).

The junior varsity men’s team took first place in the event with 87 total points and top finishes in the 400 M Relay (Logan Klentz, Blessing Ngene, Andres Lopez and Jer’Marcus Holland; 45.96) and the 800 M Relay (Klentz, Ngene, Holland and Austin Ogg; 1:38.82).

Holland and Lopez also took second and third place in the 100 M Dash with times of 11.51 and 11.88, respectively. Lopez placed third in the 200 M Dash (24.82).

Klentz, Ogg, Kenyen Wheaton and Daniel Bodenhamer took third place in the 1600 M Relay (3:58.00).

Madisonville will play host to the Mustang Relays at MHS Thursday, followed by the junior high school athletes Friday.
