Texas state troopers are investigating a crash that left one person dead on I-45 just yards south of the Madisonville City Limits sign.

David Honea, 33, of McKinney, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Steve Cole.

DPS Sgt. Jimmy Morgan said that at about 11:40 a.m. on Feb. 13, an 18-wheeler, driven by Warren Hicks, 45, of Bethany, Pa., was headed northbound on I-45, driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer.

Honea, who was working for a survey crew on the highway, was struck the the semi.

Emergency personnel attempted to resuscitate the victim, and Life Flight was called in, but the attempt was unsuccessful.

Traffic was backed up miles for several hours.

Morgan said that any charges would be filed once the investigation is complete.
