Funeral services for Wilton Bailey, 89, were held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Evans Chapel Methodist Church in Leona. The Revs. Sharon Sabom and Malcolm Monroe officiated the service. Interment was in the Evans Chapel Cemetery adjacent to the church.
Pallbearers were Christopher Bailey, Dylan Zapalac, Brody Zapalac, Gary Longbotham, Dwight Phifer, Forrest Phifer, Mark Young and Marcus Longbotham.
Honorary Pallbearers: Haleigh Winfrey, Elena Zapalac, Julia Kovacs, Alex Bailey, Isabel Bailey and Matilda Kovacs.
James "Wilton" Bailey was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Madison County, to Clark Urial and Luna Myrtle (Goodrum) Bailey. He grew up on a farm and worked hard during his childhood and teenage years helping his family maintain that farm. Wilton served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received a bachelor’s degree in Vocational Agriculture from Sam Houston State University. He established a tractor dealership in Lubbock named Bailey Ford Tractor. Wilton was a natural salesman and always enjoyed talking and visiting with people. Wilton was a hard and dedicated worker and had done so his whole life. He moved to Rosenberg in 1974 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Wilton passed away April 17, 2018, in Rosenberg. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; sister, Edna Young; and son, Brian Wilton Bailey. Surviving family includes wife, Mary Lou Bailey of Rosenberg; Rebecca Zapalac (Mark) of Orchard; sister, Sue Batson of Madisonville; grandchildren, Christopher Bailey, Julia Kovacs, Haleigh Winfrey, Dylan Zapalac, Brody Zapalac and Elena Zapalac; and great-grandchildren, Alex Bailey, Isabel Bailey and Matilda Kovacs.
