Texas Silver-Haired Legislature update

In May, the 20th Texas Silver-Haired Legislature will meet in Austin to discuss and debate proposed Resolutions aimed at addressing issues unique to older Texans - and by extension all citizens. For instance, younger citizens may have older family members financially exploited because of their age or have concerns about staffing ratios in Alzheimer’s facilities where family members reside.

MHS UIL ACADEMIC TEAM SHINE AT REGIONAL COMPETITION

SPECIAL TO THE METEOR Madisonville High School's UIL Academic Team proudly displays their awards after competing in the UIL Academic competition held in Bullard and Jacksonville on April 5th and 6th, 2024. The team, consisting of 10 students and four coaches, participated in various events, including Prose, Poetry, Number Sense, Ready Writing, and Lincoln Douglas Debate.

Madison County honors child abuse victims

On Wednesday, April 15, a ceremony was held at the Madison County Courthouse to honor the 31 children who were abused in the county this past year. The event was organized by Scotty’s House, a non-profit child advocacy center in the Brazos Valley; the event was held to raise awareness about child abuse and to recognize the resilience of young survivors.

Commissioners Court tackles various issues

The Madison County Commissioners Court met Tuesday, April 9, to address a range of topics, including infrastructure projects, law enforcement updates, and community initiatives. During the meeting, the court approved various bills in the collections report, while Sheriff Bobby Adams gave his update regarding 369 calls in March, along with 15 arrests and 45 individuals handled in the jail.
