After a 22-year investigation that spanned two continents, Shannon Wilkerson, a former soldier, was convicted on Monday, May 6, for the murder of 19-year-old Amanda Gonzales in 2001, according to a Justice Department press release.
Gonzales, who was pregnant at the time of the murder, was found in her barracks in Hanau, Germany, on Nov 5, 2001. She was found fatally beaten and strangled.
Sunday, Nov. 5, local folks in Madison County gathered to place US Flags on Veteran tombstones at the Madisonville City Cemetery and the West End Cemetery. Leftovers flags were taken to other cemeteries in the area. Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11.
Operation Safe Shield (OSS) hosted a fundraiser event Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Madisonville Sidewalk Cattleman's Association Pavilion in Madisonville benefiting law enforcement in Madison, Leon and Robertson Counties. Texas State Representative Kyle Kacal remind the audience how important it is keeping all law enforcement officers safe.
