Similar Incidents Reported in the 1970s

The recent unexplained deaths of six cows on properties along Texas OSR, discovered with body parts removed using 'apparent precision,' has left Madison County deputies searching for answers.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 19, the Sheriff's Office stated no signs of struggle, blood spills, or noticeable tracks at the scenes. Furthermore, no predators or birds had scavenged the remains for several weeks after the death, adding to the mystery.

This is not the first time such incidents have occurred. Reports of similar cattle mutilations date back to the 1970s, mainly in the West and Midwest, according to Historian Michael J. Goleman.

Small-scale ranchers often reported these incidents, and local law enforcement agencies found that the cows' ears, eyes, rectums, and sex organs had been cut away with 'surgical precision.' By the end of the decade, more than 10,000 incidents were reported, as per newspaper reports.

Recent Texas cases have prompted Madison County deputies to share information with other agencies and actively coordinate with them to find answers. The Sheriff's Office urged the public to notify them if they observed any similar occurrences and provided a contact number for information.

Deputies did not provide a timeline for the recent discoveries. Still, they noted that they spanned a stretch of the roadway into Brazos County and Robertson County, with each incident occurring in different locations, pastures, and herds.

In the first incident, ranchers stumbled upon a 6-year-old longhorncross cow lying on its side, with its mouth stripped of hide on one side with 'apparent precision,' according to investigators.

The meat underneath remained untouched, giving the impression that someone had meticulously removed the hide.

As per the sheriff's report, the cow's tongue was completely missing, leaving no traces of blood and no indication of struggle, footprints, or tire tracks at the scene.

In the other cases, four adult cows and even a yearling were found in a similar condition - lying on one side with their faces cut along the jawline, the tongue surgically extracted, and in some cases, a circular cut made to remove the anus and external genitalia with the same precision as the jawline cuts, according to the sheriff's report.

As more information comes to light, the Madisonville Meteor will cover it.
