1938 – 2023

Our beloved matriarch of the family, Joyce Wiecker Norwood, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 15, 2023.

Joyce was born in Bellville, Texas on Nov. 22, 1938 to Milady Ripple Wiecker and Ben K.

Wiecker. She was the youngest of three children and attended school at Brenham Grace Lutheran, Alamo Central and High School.

On March 3, 1956, Joyce married the love of her life Loyd Edward Norwood at Welcome Lutheran Church by Reverend W. Wolf. They started their married journey in Lake Jackson, Texas where they welcomed their first daughter Kandy Norwood Woodall on Aug. 24, 1958. On March 13, 1968, they welcomed their second daughter Krisie Norwood Manley.

Joyce was always a hard worker. In Lake Jackson she worked at Woolworth’s, Lee’s Jewelry, and Monical and Ray. She worked at the Dow Plantation House and the Dow Reservoir. In 1976, they made a move to their beautiful country home in Blieberville, Texas. Her hard work ethic still continued as she worked as a dietary supervisor at Gazebo Terrace for 30 years in Brenham, Texas.

In her spare time, you could find her on the tractor shredding 60 acres and building piles of sticks to burn. Once the country life was too much for Joyce and Loyd, they made a move to Brenham, Texas in 2007. Her beloved husband passed away in September of 2009. Living in the city gave her more time to do what she loved, which was tending to her flower beds. They were always beautiful and full of colorful blooms.

In 2020, she moved to Bedias, Texas to be closer to her daughter and son in law, Kandy and Steve Woodall. You could find her always watching a Western with the volume as loud as possible. She could always tell you if she had already seen the one that was on, but she would watch it anyways looking for something she missed the first time she watched it. While in Bedias, she kept an eye on the cattle as they moved throughout the pasture and loved to come out and give the dogs a special treat.

Joyce Wiecker Norwood was preceded in death by, father Ben K. Wiecker; mother Malady Wiecker Henske; husband Loyd Edward Norwood; sisters Betty Jean Stoerner and Mary Lou Craig and granddaughter Jenny Denise Woodall.

Left to cherish her memory are daughter and son in law, Kandy and Steve Woodall of Bedias, Texas; daughter Krisie Norwood Manley of Dallas, Texas; beloved grandchildren Staci Woodall of Bedias, Texas, Heath and Lonna Woodall of Angleton, Texas, Devin Norwood of New York and Kelsey Manley of Dallas, Texas; three great grandchildren Blaine and Brody Noska of Bedias, Texas and Aaron Nett of Angleton, Texas; close friends turned to family Randy and Evelyn of Brenham, Texas. Along with many nieces and nephews of whom she loved so dearly.

The family would like to send a very special thank you to Texas Loving Care Assisted Living Facility of Madisonville, Texas for all the love and compassion that they showed our mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

As well as Traditions Hospice in keeping our loved one comfortable in her final stages of life.

An additional thank you goes to All Families Mortuary for taking care of the final arrangements.

Per her wishes, a small family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate her life.

A Mother’s Love A Mother’s love is something That no one can explain, It is made of deep devotion And of sacrifice and pain, It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may For nothing can destroy it Or take that love away.

To us, you will exist in the flowers and in the trees, And in all things of nature That God has given me You are in a world of peace, And happiness forever In God’s eternal garden Where we will join together.
