Funeral services for Ray Spivey, age 87, of Elwood, were held 11 A.M., Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas. Bro. Andrew Parry officiated the service. Mr.

Spivey was laid to rest in Allphin Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Wayne Spivey, Ronnie Spivey, Gary Spivey, Thad Wilson, Cody Novasad, Chris Novasad, Joshua Spivey, Jared Spivey, Jacob Spivey, Neil Sommerlatte Robbie “Ray” Spivey was born April 1, 1935 in Madisonville, Texas to Lawrence Leonard & Fannie Laura (Winn) Spivey.

He was raised and attended school in Madison County. Ray married his sweetheart, Bettie McRee June 4, 1955. Ray and Bettie settled in Houston where Ray worked and retired from Cintas as a service manager. In the mid 1990’s they moved back to Madison County where Ray enjoyed taking care of his cattle. He also held an affinity for antique tractors, Amish wagons and horses.

Ray passed away February 21, 2023 in Bryan, Texas following a brief illness.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and siblings, Eunice Parks, Cecil Spivey, Harvey Spivey, Dan Spivey, Ruby Spikes and Glyness Spivey.

Surviving family members include devoted wife, Bettie Spivey of Elwood; daughter & son-in-law, Susan & Earl Sommerlatte of Midway; granddaughter, Erin Pirtle & husband, Jeff of Nacogdoches; grandson, Neil Sommerlatte of Arlington; great-grandchildren, Cora and August Sommerlatte and sister, Maurice Novasad of Sugar Land.

Arrangements were under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
