Sam Bennett wins U.S Amateur at Ridgewood

Bennett, who is in the ranking of world amateur at Number three as well as the 2022 SEC Player of the Year, defeated the Georgia Southern senior Ben Carr.

What a life we are living these days! The IRS is hiring over 87,000 employees. Are you interested? To land a job their website says you must be willing to work at least 50 hours a week, be on-call 24/7, including holidays and weekends and be fit as a fiddle so you can “respond to life-threatening situations on the job.” Examples given were participating in arrests, execution of search warrants, and other dangerous assignments.

With the new school year starting, the future for the next generation grows even brighter. The opportunities for today’s students didn’t exist for the generations that came before. However time goes on, the risks affecting our students also grow. The world is more connected now than ever.

Farmer’s Almanac predicting a white winter

As Texas gets at least a temporary reprieve this week from the heat, with a nice round of rain blanketing much of the state, the Old Farmer’s Almanac is predicting January will bring significant snowfall to the state. The periodical, founded in 1818, develops its extended forecast “using a 204-year-old mathematical formula focused on sunspot activity, planet positions and tidal actions of the moon.” The almanac’s website claims its forecasts are 80 to 85 percent accurate.

LEAD STORY --THEY BURIED THE LEAD Skydiver Gary Connery, 53, was sentenced in Oxford Crown Court in England on Aug. 16, the BBC reported, for grievous bodily harm after he threw his girlfriend, Tanya Brass, down a staircase.

This essay has been in my mind a couple of years. I finally started it Saturday, though I could have delayed and maybe done better. I think I saw my first facts associated with this at the local library, but if I had waited any longer, I have never done it. I chose to go with what I had at hand, meaning our two books of Madison County history and the internet.
