Billy Ray Skains, age 77, of Houston, Texas passed away June 17, 2023 surrounded in love by his family. A funeral service celebrating his life was held 10 A.M., Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas. Neil Davis officiated the service, and interment followed in Hopewell Cemetery outside of Normangee, Texas.

On August 29, 2019, Erica Torres pled guilty to Abandoning and Endangering a Child and was sentenced to 8 years of probation. A condition of her probation was that Torres not commit new crimes or violate the law.

On September 9, 2019, Madisonville Police Department were dispatched to the El Mercadito on 814 S. May Street in reference to an Aggravated Robbery.

Texas’ power grid reported record electricity use early last week. Both the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas are urging residents and businesses to voluntarily reduce electricity use as temperatures soar above100 degrees over much of the state.

This is not what I planned. Because of last week’s storm and damage here, I wanted and intended to write about similar storms of the past. However, I’ve been unable to get enough facts, so I’ve tabled that for now. Luckily I found a copy of the June 19, 1930, Meteor that caught my interest and I hope it does the same for you.

Rickey Tinney; 70 years; of Madisonville, TX; passed away on Sunday; June 18, 2023 in Madisonville, TX. The funeral services are scheduled for 2PM on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville, TX with the burial to follow at Center Hill Cemetery in Oakhurst, TX. Bro. Michael Juarez will officiate.

Wanda Lanette Matthews was born to Bedford and Grace (Stanley) Sharp on February 18, 1937 in Liberty, Texas. In 1953, she met and married the love of her life, Leonard Ray Matthews. They went on to grow their family between 1956 and 1962, welcoming Sheryl, Brenda, Bubba and Cathy. In 1963, they moved to Iola, Texas where they resided for the next forty-two years. In 2006, she moved to Humble, Texas to an active senior living community until her passing on June 14, 2023, where she was surrounded by her loved ones.
